My Fellow Skincare Consultants We’ve covered what the products are and what they do, now it’s time to turn this knowledge into sales. When I start the sales process, I start with “Who is this product for? When you hear the benefits of a product, did someone come to mind? Did you think of a group of people such as overworked moms? People who neeeedddd that spa day but think they can’t afford it? I love to make a list of who needs this product or who my ideal customer is. Sometimes specific people will come to mind, sometimes you have to figure out who that ideal person is.
Once you figure out who the product is for, go find them! Social Media is my go to for making connections, especially in a global pandemic. I love making connections in like-minded groups such as Mom groups, direct seller groups, yoga groups.. I join groups, or create them and network online. I get to know the person, genuinely. Every day I spend about 10 minutes going through these groups and connecting with others. I will make genuine comments, send personal messages IF its appropriate. This helps me to genuinely get to know people, they connect with me and we’ve built this solid foundation. Once I’ve made that connection, I can grow my network. That way when a products comes out , I can approach them with this product and they will trust me. They know that I’m not just selling to them, they know that I am actually trying to help them and serve them in some way. Not everyone will be a customer but they will be a connection. When my friend Sally, that I met in a mom group goes to lunch with her friend Suzy, and Suzy tells Sally her face is so dry, Sally will tell her friend “I know my friend Whitney can help you!” I also like to post on social media in my customer group asking questions like ‘what is your biggest skin care concern”. This allows me to really serve others with solutions and products. This is not me just selling a product this is me offering a solution with product. I am a problem solver for someone. This will also build trust so when they have another issue that they want to work on or want to improve they know that they can come to me and I will have a solution for them. This is such a great way to grow your business.
Another idea for more traditional sales is to offer a DIY at home spa night. You could send your friends/family/customers a Menu of Services/Treatments, have them send you what “treatment” they would like, and have the product that mimics the treatment at the party. Get some sheet masks, samples, candles, snacks, bubbly drinks, and enjoy a night of fun and spa treatments in your home. Everyone will love it, and will more than likely order the products they got to experience. We know when customers try, they buy!
Ask for the sale. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.

I’ve learned a lot on my journey in direct sales. I’ve learned what works, and what doesn’t. I’ve learned how to run a successful Avon business. I’ve learned what to do and what not to do. Am I perfect? Of course not but I have learned a lot of lessons. Let me share with you how to run a successful Avon business.
Find Your Why What is your “why”, your reason for starting your Avon Business? Ask yourself what you want from this business, what fuels you. For me, my why is my family. I’m a wife, mother of 4, and business woman. I am building a legacy for my children. I am paying for braces, groceries, car payments. This fuels me. Once you find out what your motivation is, you will work harder to reach your goals. You will work hard for what matters to you. Find out your why, then get to work.
Learn You’ve found your why, now it’s time to learn everything you can about your business. How can you sell a product if you know nothing about it? I am a skincare nerd! I love all things skincare. I never miss a training provided by Avon. I’ve even had the opportunity to cohost a few! I read the What’s New and find out all I can about the products. I use the products so I can share real results. If someone comes to you and asks what product is best for them, if you’ve never tried the product or learned about the product, how can you give them a real answer? Take advantage of the free training provided by Avon. Join groups on Social Media that provide free training by fellow Avon Representatives like Timeless Beauty Lessons. Take the time to learn all you can so you can be the authority to your customers.
Grow Your Customer Base You have learned about the products and found out what motivates you to succeed, its time to grow your customer base. First, I take a look at what I am selling. What is my product? It is important to know what you are selling. Try the products. Once you have tried the products, you can give your honest feedback to customers and will have a better idea on the next step. Next, who needs this product? When you think of a new product, who comes to mind? Who is your ideal customer for this product? What does she/he do for a living? For example, when the new product Isa Knox Collagen Booster was announced, I tried the product (fell head over heels), then I thought of who needs this product. I immediately thought of my sister in law, Rosemary. Rosemary works full time, has 2 boys, on a budget, on trend, and needs a little self care. Collagen Booster was made for Rosemary! I also thought of other women who would love a luxury product without the luxury price. I know what the products do and what type of person needs these products, now I find them. I know where I can find that working mom after the kids go to bed, Social Media. Let’s talk networking on social media.
Network on Social Media If you were in person at a networking event, would you walk up to someone and say “here’s a product I’m selling”? No. You would get to know them, introduce yourself, find out what they do, make a connection. It’s the same for social media. You have to make a connections, you have to get to know people. Take the time to comment on posts, join like minded groups, get to know others. Don’t just post photos of products and links. Give as much as you take on social media. Interact with others, share who you are. Really network on social media, just like you would in person. I’m in several Mom groups on Facebook. I make connections with these women. I’m in groups with other direct sellers, I make genuine connections with them as well. Once I know who and where they are, I can meet their needs with the products that are best for them. I can reach out to them without the “hey girl” message. I can reach out with “Hey Marie, I know you are so busy and taking care of yourself is low on your list. I have 2 incredible products that can give you the self care you deserve!” I know her, I know what she needs, we have a connection, I now have a customer. Treat each platform differently. Facebook is connection, Instagram is where you brand yourself, the glossy side, TikTok is real, walls down, authenticity. Networking on Social Media can grow your business right from your phone/computer from the comfort of your own home
Collaborate with Others Collaboration over competition. Fellow Avon Representatives are not your competition. I’ve learned so much by connecting with other Avon Representatives. I’ve also made some incredible connections, some I know will be lifelong friends, by connecting to other representatives. Timeless Beauty Lessons on Facebook is a great group to connect with other Avon Representatives and learn from top leaders and sellers across the nation. The group is run by Jennifer Francis with Timeless Beauty Life and Emily Stephens with Beauty Boss Essentials. Network with fellow representatives. You’ll learn what has worked for them and what didn’t work for them. I’m not saying to copy everything they do, everyone’s business is different, however you can learn so much from someone who has been successful in this business. Why would you not want to learn from someone who is successful?
Be a Problem Solver Have you looked in the mirror in the morning and wished the reflection in the mirror was different? I have. A friend may need you more than you need them. Forget being a salesperson and start being a problem solver. Offer value to your friends and family. Ask your friends and family what their biggest skincare concern is and then meet their needs. Find out what hair concern they have, then offer the solution. I’m a natural curly girl. I struggled with my hair for way too many years. I thought my hair was the problem, turns out I was just using the wrong products. Once I found the right products, the game changed for me. Imagine spending years struggling with your appearance, the insecurities from hair or skin. Now imagine YOU solve their problem. You have the product that will change the game for them. You help someone look and the mirror and smile, instead of hiding from the mirror.
Don’t Quit Direct Sales is hard. It just is. Don’t give up. There will be highs and lows. You can’t give up in the lows, if you do, you’ll miss the highs. What if you give up right before you would have made it? I was barely making any sales my first year and thought about quitting at least twice a week. I’m so glad I never gave up. I’m a top seller, national leader, and Beauty Board Member. I never thought my little side hustle would turn into a full time gig but it did. It did because I didn’t give up. I didn’t quit on me. I remembered my why, collaborated with others, became a problem solver, when things quit working, I tried something new. Don’t give up on yourself. You, my friend, were meant for greatness!

Ever have those days where you have so much to do, not enough time, and everyone, everywhere needs something from you? Overwhelmed, not even sure where to start? We all have those days! There is so much expected of women. I mean we are all super heroes right?! Some days you have to take off your cape and just be. I don’t have all the answers but I do have life hacks for the busy woman that can help your life run smoother.
Just Stop Spoiler alert! There is no award given out to the perfect mom/wife/woman. No one is perfect, and neither are you so stop trying. Sit down and figure out what tasks are “must do’s”. What do you absolutely have to get done today? Once you figure out what’s most important, rock that! Don’t try to fit everything in on one day and expect it to be perfect. Focus on doing one thing perfectly instead of trying to be perfect at everything.
Order The Pizza! One day I felt overwhelmed. Kids. Life. Work. The feeling of always trying to be perfect. It was just too much. My hubby got home from work, saw my face, and stepped in. I told him I needed him to take care of dinner and I went and took a shower. See, I’ve learned to take care of me, communicate to my husband my needs. Guess what happens? He shows up for me. Every time. I take care of myself. Taking care of me makes me a better, mother, wife, friend, leader. So order the pizza, take care of you. You are worth it!
Celebrate Celebrate every small victory. Did you drink your coffee hot today? You go girl! Get the laundry put away? Get an order in your small business? Get to work on time? Manage to feed yourself and not just your kids? You go girl! Celebrate! When you take a moment to focus on what you HAVE accomplished each day, your mindset will shift. You’ll realize just how much you have gotten done and that overwhelming to-do list might just seem a little less important.
Move You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward, just take the next step. Do you ever feel stuck? Scared to move forward? A goal too far from reach? Stop trying to figure it all out and take a small step forward. Figure out what the first step is and take it. If you don’t move, you’ll never get there. Breakdown that big goal into little steps, then move. Take the first step. Breaking things down into smaller tasks, smaller goals, makes those big goals more attainable. So…. move!
Hush How many times have you thought “I can’t do that?” How many times have you focused on what you’re not? I know I struggle with this myself. I was the girl who didn’t believe. I let my insecurities stop me from doing things because I feel like I won’t be good enough. It’s time for all of us to stop focusing on what we are not, and start believing that we can. Believe in yourself! Tell that voice inside your head that is telling you that you aren’t good enough, not a great wife/friend/mom to HUSH! You are a Queen! Fix your crown Mama!
Collaborate As women we try and take everything on all by ourselves. I am sooo guilty of this! Over the past few years I’ve learned what my strengths and weaknesses are. I’ve also learned that an area I may be weak in, is one of my sisters in my business strengths. We can’t all be good at everything! I’ve been part of some incredible projects over the past few years by collaborating with others. Collaborate with others in your business. Lean into your strengths and let others help you with your weaknesses. The same goes for you at home. My kids have wanted to help fold towels but they didn’t “fold them the right way” so I would go and redo it or say “I’ll take care of it”. Does it really matter how the towels are folded if the towels are folded and put away? No. Does it really matter if the dishwasher is not loaded in a Tetris precision? No. The chores and tasks around the house can be done by others. You can’t be perfect, don’t expect perfection in your home either. By letting others in your home help, you get a break, they get to share a part of that heavy load you carry each day. Put it down Mama! Collaborate!
Relax Self care isn’t vanity, it’s sanity. You have to stop, relax, and take care of you! Taking a shower is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Take a bath, turn off your phone, or call a friend, use your favorite face mask, paint your nails, listen to music, your favorite podcast, put some essential oils in your diffuser, whatever makes you feel relaxed. You can not be your best self if you aren’t taking care of yourself! Make yourself a priority. If you don’t self care, you’ll self sabotage.
I do not have life figured out by any means. I have learned being overwhelmed, a perfectionist, trying to be everything for everyone does not work. The biggest takeaway I hope you get from this- Grace. Give yourself grace. You can’t do it all, so stop. Let yourself fail, get back up again, and take care of yourself. You are more than worth it!
